Biochem/physiol Actions
Integrin subunit α 4 (ITGA4) has a role in bone marrow homing. It associates with the β1 integrin chain and forms the very-late-antigen-4 (VLA-4) complex. The protein also binds to vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, fibronectin and osteopontin (OPN) and modulates the activity of immature progenitors in the bone marrow. ITGA4 also aids the migration of B lymphocytes through the fibroblast barrier.
